What I cannot work out is which one or more apply to me?????

I currently have according to Add/Remove the following-

KB925672 MSXML 4.0 SP2

KB927978 MSXML 4.0 SP2

MSXML 6.0 PARSER

I have read through the Sec Bulletin MS07-042

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms07-042.mspx

and I can see the fourth entry in the table 'affected software' applies to

me OS and that it refers to a previous Sec Update also on offer this Black

Tuesday.

I was hoping this page may give me the answer but I cannot see it.

The simplest way to find out would be using Windows Update.

If you don't have an AMD 64 bit processor installed, msxml6-KB933579-enu-x86.exe

would most likely be the one your system needs for updateing MSXML6.

You would know if your system needs ia64 updates, trust me )

Hi Freudi

I did use WU - that's where the offer of KB933579 came from.

I do not have an AMD 64 bit processor - I have a P4 640 which of course has

the intel extended memory 64 technology.

My OS is XP Home SP2 and not Pro 64 bit so I am not running a 64 bit system.

In addition I have also got the SP 2 pack for XML CS 4.0 - KB936181.

But it was easy to see I needed this update as there was only one choice on

the download.

I would agree that the one you suggest is the lesser of the three 'evils' as

the appropriate system for the 4.0 core service update is for XP SP2 x86 32

en, as per the advice on the below link(which I have found an easier read

than any MS site for updates)

http://ca.com/us/securityadvisor/vulninfo/vuln.aspx?id=35609

but I would rather read the confirmation from yourself, Mow and one or two

others, before I jump.

Thank you again for your input.

Hope you don't find this months update troubleshoot too stressful.

Fine, so why downloading it manually? -)

Than it's msxml6-KB933579-enu-x86.exe your system needs and is offered

via WU/MU/AU.

Nope, it has been a relative stressless month so far :)

Because I have had my fingers burnt twice taking them via WU Home and the

yellow shield - so since April/May 2006 I take each one at a time, read and

try to learn how to read the MS info then save to disc and install at my

leisure, disconnected from the net and will all security disabled - I am

sure that I have avoided problems thus far by this method - and I am not

alone with this procedure.

Good to hear that - Vista users seem to be getting it in the neck this month

:-)

Thanks for confirming which one - I must be learning something.
