Why can't I use windows app without work account?

I bought Windows 11 pro only to use the remote desktop feature, which works to connect from my pc to mac using the windows app on my mac, but I can't stream my mac screen to my PC using remote desktop. I bought windows 11 pro to maybe use the windows app instead, but can't without a work account.Is this something you need to pay extra for?
