SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION STOP CODE

What happened was that I momentarily put my laptop (Asus) to sleep, and when I got back, my screen showed a blue screen. Panicking, I quickly press the power button to restart it. Then, It didn't show up now (the moment I'm writing this message) since I haven't restarted it yet. the only thing I did now was to check for Windows updated and install it. I might done it wrong, so I asked maybe there is something that i should have done to fix it. I don't know if it harmed my files since my works are still there when I restarted it. I'm not a techy person and not very familiar with this stuffs. R
