Screen flickers when playing some games

I have noticed when playing some games that my entire screen will start flickering. It usually starts relatively minor and will slowly get worse as time goes on. The main thing that I notice is that it will take a bit of whatever is displayed at the top of my screen and it will flicker it at the very bottom of my screen. Sometimes it will be the top of whatever window is open behind the game I am currently playing. The flickering of the entire screen also usually gets worse if I alt tab to a different window. At one point the flickering got worse when I tried to lower the graphics in the game
