Within less than a year my windows system has been uninstalled from my lenovo laptop and my previous Dell laptop, why is this happening?

Within a year my Dell laptop, and now my Lenovo laptop have gotten the window system uninstalled, this is actually the second time in my Lenovo, once in my previous Dell. Why is this happening? Last night I was watching a show for hours, ( which I have been watching for a few weeks now) when all of the sudden I got this message: " Please select boot device". Now my laptop is dead and I have to pay one more time to get my windows back.
