Support claims my Windows 10 Pro installation has been deactivated after trying to update to Windows 11 Pro

I kinda can't believe this is true, but this is my situation and what I was told:1. I was on a 10-year old PC with Windows 10 Pro, which had been updated I think for free but not sure from a retail copy of Windows 8 Pro.2. Knowing Windows 10 security updates are ending this year, I decided to upgrade my motherboard, CPU and memory and system drive. Based on everything I'd read, this would be a very straightforward process that might require a phone call to reauthorize on the new hardware.3.
