Windows 11, Dell Inspiron 16 plus. Image on desktop background distorted. I right click on open vertical image (cropped to size 8x10 and check "set as desktop background." How do I set/fix?

I VERTICAL crop the image I am working with to a specific size (for magazine cover). I open the image; right click on "set to desktop background". Image appears as my background but image is distorted...... not specific size I have set. Horizontal images are fine. Vertical images are distorted. How do I correct this so both horizontal and vertical images show full size when setting for desktop background? Thanks much.
