Why is dell laptop not charging from a dead battery afterhaving an windows update?

My dell laptop took an update day before yesterday. I worked on the laptop after that and at one point I had to work without plugging it. So the battery drained and now it is not charging at all. There is no issue with the adapter. Charges other laptops. My 1year old laptop was just fine all along. How can i fix this? My laptop has drained completely a few times before and plugging it would bring it back to life. But this time after the update it absolutely is not charging. I direly need it to work.
