Guest kos Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 ok.. I'm trying to update my OS and when I come to the update page the only thing it will allow me to download is the genuine update tool. Fine. Do it. But the stupid thing won't install. It just downloads and fails. And then it won't give me any explaination of why. It says to check download history and click the failure (x) for more info.. but there is no failure (x).. it's a canceled (-). WTF. FIX THIS MICROSOFT.
Guest Alan Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 And to make things a bit more interesting regarding the download problems that have been occurring with much more frequency, this coming Tuesday, July 10, is PATCH Tuesday. Things are going to be a lot of fun then, I'm betting. :> Alan "kos" <kos@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:66F2F19B-2B1D-46E2-A00C-C594E11048E9@microsoft.com... > ok.. > I'm trying to update my OS and when I come to the update page the only > thing > it will allow me to download is the genuine update tool. Guest Engel Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Hello kos, Test this WGA diagnose test, connection to MS, that scripts working and a new Validation tool http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/ Good luck -- "kos" wrote: > ok.. > I'm trying to update my OS and when I come to the update page the only thing > it will allow me to download is the genuine update tool. After 30 days, or until the next Back Tuesday, he is able to see which updates from the previous Black Tuesday are damaging and which ones are not. On each Black Tuesday, he applies the updates from the last Black Tuesday to the other 64 computers that were not damaging to the 65th (Black Tuesday Test) computer. He then downloads all the latest Black Tuesday updates relevant to his systems and applies them to the poor old 65th (Black Tuesday Test) computer and starts the whole mess over again. It seems as though the cure to “malicious attacks” AKA Black Tuesday Critical Updates are becoming more of a threat to the health of a system than the actual “malicious attack”. It has been suggested on some other groups that there are 4 things that can be done to guard one’s self from malicious attacks instead of chancing your system to Black Tuesday Critical Updates. They are to practice “Safe Hex” (which could be a number or any common sense things I assume), running an up-to-date Firewall (a real one), running an up-to-date antivirus package and hiding behind a router (Stealth). I do all 4 plus the Black Tuesday Criticals and have never had a single problem (Knock on Wood). I don’t know if that can be attributed to the above 4 things or the Black Tuesday Criticals or a combination of both……. The only problem I have ever had is MS’s Infamous Malware WGA blaming me of stealing my paid for copy of XP that I run on my Desktop, a copy that has been running on my desktop since 04-12-2004 which is when my RECEIPT says I PAID for it! And this was with the 3rd or 4th (I forget which) release of the Infamous Malware WGA which means I passed the thief test in the prior releases of the Infamous Malware WGA which means then that the 3rd or 4th release of the Infamous Malware WGA had to assume I stole it off of MYSELF since the prior releases of the Infamous Malware WGA agreed that the paid for copy of XP on my desktop was, in fact, a legit copy. I’m 58 years old and have never, in my life, been blamed of stealing anything (because I haven’t) until this unscrupulous MS faction and its ferret faced Bill Gates did so. It’s so ironic that I was blamed of being a thief by a faction that had to appear before a Senate Investigation Committee looking into their questionable business practices. Hummmmmm Regards
Guest kos Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Thanks Engel. Using "http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/" worked and now I can update normally. But I still shouldn't have to "problem solve" for something as menial as updating my OS. You'd better take care of this kind of thing Microsoft, or you're gonna find some PC Geeks turning into Mac Addicts.
Guest kos Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 oh lord. I'm going to kick my computer. I thought it worked because when I went back to the update site it showed me a list of updates, unlike before when it only showed the Genuine Advantage update. But now when I download these updates it is doing the same thing as before. It downloads them but fails to install! I get no error code or anything... it just sends me off to their troubleshooter (which is not solving anything). So I need help again.
Guest kos Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Anybody ever see Aqua Teen Hunger Force when Carl says, in a very calm and quiet voice, "oh god, you are making me so freaking angry right now". Well that's what I'm saying now. Instead of updating normally, I'm copying the update names and pasting them into the Microsoft Download Center search bar (in Firefox btw) and downloading them all manually. This will take a while. Microsoft, you are making me so freaking angry right now.

This is what happens when one tries to fix something that is not broken or trying to find ghosts.

No WPA, no WGA, no need for an anti virus or anti malware program. It comes with a built-in firewall and if you add a router hard firewall, it's all you need to protect you from the blue meanies. Not only that, it's free and comes with thousands of free programs. Get it here: http://www.ubuntu.com/ Alias
Guest kos Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 It apparently isn't about the WGA.. the problem is that nothing will install from their update website for some reason. When I did it all manually (and still had to go through WGA for individual updates) it worked fine. And automatic update should have taken care of this whole thing anyway. I'm just really annoyed that I have to go through this trouble to get my OS up to date. I think Microsoft is unwilling to offer the troubleshooting that they know will fix this: re-install Windows (and every program that I have).

Try one (or both) of these: You may even want to do solution 1 and then do *just* 3-5 of solution 2... Solution to try (1): Get Dial-a-Fix: http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix Use its options to fix Windows Installer, fix Windows Update, and all the Registration Center options. Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2" Then click "GO" Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution". Reboot and try again with the updates... Solution to try (2): 1) Reboot and logon as a user with Administrative Privs... 2) Immediately run the following batch script (You will have to create it by cutting/pasting as directed.) - Click Start, Run, type: notepad C:\register.bat and press Enter. Choose Yes when you are prompted. - Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window: regsvr32 comcat.dll /s regsvr32 shdoc401.dll /s regsvr32 shdoc401.dll /i /s regsvr32 asctrls.ocx /s regsvr32 oleaut32.dll /s regsvr32 shdocvw.dll /I /s regsvr32 shdocvw.dll /s regsvr32 browseui.dll /s regsvr32 browseui.dll /I /s regsvr32 msrating.dll /s regsvr32 mlang.dll /s regsvr32 hlink.dll /s regsvr32 mshtmled.dll /s regsvr32 urlmon.dll /s regsvr32 plugin.ocx /s regsvr32 sendmail.dll /s regsvr32 scrobj.dll /s regsvr32 mmefxe.ocx /s regsvr32 corpol.dll /s regsvr32 jscript.dll /s regsvr32 msxml.dll /s regsvr32 imgutil.dll /s regsvr32 thumbvw.dll /s regsvr32 cryptext.dll /s regsvr32 rsabase.dll /s regsvr32 inseng.dll /s regsvr32 iesetup.dll /i /s regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll /s regsvr32 actxprxy.dll /s regsvr32 dispex.dll /s regsvr32 occache.dll /s regsvr32 occache.dll /i /s regsvr32 iepeers.dll /s regsvr32 urlmon.dll /i /s regsvr32 cdfview.dll /s regsvr32 webcheck.dll /s regsvr32 mobsync.dll /s regsvr32 pngfilt.dll /s regsvr32 licmgr10.dll /s regsvr32 icmfilter.dll /s regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx /s regsvr32 inetcfg.dll /s regsvr32 tdc.ocx /s regsvr32 MSR2C.DLL /s regsvr32 msident.dll /s regsvr32 msieftp.dll /s regsvr32 xmsconf.ocx /s regsvr32 ils.dll /s regsvr32 msoeacct.dll /s regsvr32 inetcomm.dll /s regsvr32 msdxm.ocx /s regsvr32 dxmasf.dll /s regsvr32 l3codecx.ax /s regsvr32 acelpdec.ax /s regsvr32 mpg4ds32.ax /s regsvr32 voxmsdec.ax /s regsvr32 danim.dll /s regsvr32 Daxctle.ocx /s regsvr32 lmrt.dll /s regsvr32 datime.dll /s regsvr32 dxtrans.dll /s regsvr32 dxtmsft.dll /s regsvr32 WEBPOST.DLL /s regsvr32 WPWIZDLL.DLL /s regsvr32 POSTWPP.DLL /s regsvr32 CRSWPP.DLL /s regsvr32 FTPWPP.DLL /s regsvr32 FPWPP.DLL /s regsvr32 WUAPI.DLL /s regsvr32 WUAUENG.DLL /s regsvr32 ATL.DLL /s regsvr32 WUCLTUI.DLL /s regsvr32 WUPS.DLL /s regsvr32 WUWEB.DLL /s regsvr32 wshom.ocx /s regsvr32 wshext.dll /s regsvr32 vbscript.dll /s regsvr32 scrrun.dll mstinit.exe /setup /s regsvr32 msnsspc.dll /SspcCreateSspiReg /s regsvr32 msapsspc.dll /SspcCreateSspiReg /s regsvr32 /s urlmon.dll regsvr32 /s mshtml.dll regsvr32 /s shdocvw.dll regsvr32 /s browseui.dll regsvr32 /s jscript.dll regsvr32 /s vbscript.dll regsvr32 /s scrrun.dll regsvr32 /s msxml.dll regsvr32 /s actxprxy.dll regsvr32 /s softpub.dll regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll regsvr32 /s schannel.dll regsvr32 /s oleaut32.dll regsvr32 /s ole32.dll regsvr32 /s shell32.dll regsvr32 /s initpki.dll regsvr32 /s msscript.ocx regsvr32 /s dispex.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll /s del %temp% /Q /F net stop wuauserv net stop cryptsvc ren %windir%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.old cd /d %windir%\SoftwareDistribution rd /s DataStore /Q regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s regsvr32 wups.dll /s regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s regsvr32 msxml.dll /s regsvr32 msxml2.dll /s regsvr32 msxml3.dll /s regsvr32 urlmon.dll /s net start cryptsvc net start wuauserv exit - After you paste the above commands, please close the Notepad window.
