Guest nhey Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I did a fresh installation of vista ultimate this morning and activated it successfully. I am able to connect to the internet. I tried to run windows update and got a message that windows update itself first needs to be installed. I clicked through but it doesn't work and I get the same error code 8007000b. How is this possible?

Guest nhey Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I meant to say that it tells me that windows update first needs to be updated. Guest nhey Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I tried the cmd prompt method - run as administrator and type in fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\ and it returns an error message "the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable". Guest Engel Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 RE: Windows Update doesn't work 8007000b error on a fresh installa Hello nhey, Goto start and run and type (remember the space after SFC) SFC /SCANNOW press enter and let it scan your system, if any files are damaged or missing they will be replaced using the files on the windows disk -- "nhey" wrote: > I tried the cmd prompt method - run as administrator and type in fsutil > resource setautoreset true c:\ and it returns an error message "the file or > directory is corrupted or unreadable". > > "nhey" wrote: > > > I did a fresh installation of vista ultimate this morning and activated it > > successfully. Guest Engel Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 RE: Windows Update doesn't work 8007000b error on a fresh installa Hi nhey, In Vista run it from an elevated command prompt. Right click command on start and run as administrator. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files.html?ltr=S you can get more detailed information about the error by looking in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log This is a text file containing records of everything sfc does while it runs. Examine the log file using a text editor such as Notepad, and look for error messages near the bottom of the file. Once we know more details about the exact problem sfc is hitting, we may be abe to suggest ways to fix it. See this KB article for more background on the CBS.Log file. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222193/ http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html -- "nhey" wrote: > I tried it, and something quickly flashed across my screen and disappeared. > No program started up... > > "Engel" wrote: > > > Hello nhey, > > > > Goto start and run and type (remember the space after SFC) > > > > SFC /SCANNOW > > > > press enter and let it scan your system, if any files are damaged or missing > > they will be replaced using the files on the windows disk > > -- > > > > > > "nhey" wrote: > > > > > I tried the cmd prompt method - run as administrator and type in fsutil > > > resource setautoreset true c:\ and it returns an error message "the file or > > > directory is corrupted or unreadable". > > > > > > "nhey" wrote: > > > > > > > I did a fresh installation of vista ultimate this morning and activated it > > > > successfully.
