Is windows update possible without administrator rights

Dear all,

I have a very annoying problem in our company. Our staff is using

windows XP computers and it seems that microsoft automatic update

can't update the computers when they are logged in with their power

user accounts.

This means that I will have to go trough all the computers once in a

while and update computers with administrator rights. Our IT-support

claims that there is nothing that can be done about it.

So my question is can this be true? Is there really know way to have

automatic updates installed without me logging in with administrator

rights?

This is really annoying and takes lot of time, so help is GREATLY

appreciated.

Best regards,

Sirri

Not sure if this will help you at all but what I have done on 30 clients was

to set the group policy on the machine itself, I seet the automatic updates

to 4, the update frequency to 20 hours and the auto update immediate

installation to enable. With those settings the machines maintain the updates

no matter who is or was logged on. It does not appear that it hase booted

anyone off, it appears that the update and reboot happens when the machine is

idle so you should make sure no one leaves unsaved work open.
