Not sure if installation stalled

I rently did a clean install of XP Pro. I followed up with scanning and

doing recommended update install. Now a few days later, I shut down my

computer.

Then I get a message that Updates are being installed (2 of 14). Do not

turn off or unplug. The problem is this: I am looking at the same message

(2 of 14) for almost 2 hours. Should I assume there is a problem and power

OFF

Please help

Got impatient and powered off. Started computer again and rebooted but the

same message reappeared and has been on for almost an hour now

Disconnect the system from the network/internet. COMPLETELY disable the

installed antivirus program for now and restart the system.

If that gets the updates to install, then prior to restarting the

system, REENABLE the AV *before* reconnecting.
