Guest Copying Excel Formulas Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I have been having problems with Automatic Update for months now. Seems like the problems started just after installing Norton 360 (not sure it's related). In any event, because of other Norton caused problems, I've since removed it from my computer, but the AU problems persist. I've tried researching this problem but have not been able to find a solution. Neither Microsoft or Dell have been able to help. Dell suggested I reinstall Windows XP Media Center Version 2002 but I am reluctant to do that because I'm afraid I might lose everything and have to start over. I am very dependant on this computer. The seqence of events for this problem are as follows: Months ago, I went to the Windows Update site and the first thing I noticed was that there was an item on the home screen inviting me to try the New Microsoft Update. I followed those instructions and installed whatever was being offered. I next clicked on Express Update and got a message that said: "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue: 1 Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended), or 2 Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem" I looked at option 2 but it didn't help at all. So I chose option 1 and the files that were no longer registered or installed, got registered or reinstalled. That brought me back to the update screen. I again clicked Express Update and this time a bunch of critical updates were found. I installed them successfully and thought I was done. The next thing I knew Automatic Update launched and came back telling me that three of the updates I had already installed were ready to be installed. I let them install again and this kept repeating every 10 minutes until I told AU to ignore these updates in the future. For the rest of that day everything seemed fine. The next day and every day since then, after booting my machine, this process starts all over again. WU keeps wanting to install updates that have already been applied. I don't know what's going on, but this has been happening for several month's now. It's become very frustrating. I would appreciate any help or advice I can get on this.

Guest Copying Excel Formulas Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 As I explained in my post, Norton 360 is no longer running on my machine. The article you pointed me to talks about updates not installing. That's not my problem. The updates install successfully, but keep coming back the next time AU launches.
