It has version 6.10.0.5866 of the IDT/Sigmatel audio drivers for Vista SP1 and should work on your Dell XPS 420 desktop computer. Guest realcestmoi Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Hi there, It is commom knowledge here that drivers should be taken from the manufacturers site, exception is there for microsoft hardware only. Same problem as above. Except it was on a Gateway laptop. After updating to SP 3 on XP the sound was gone along with the speaker icon on the task bar. I went to Gateway's website and found an earlier version of the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC driver and downloaded it and installed it. The problem was solved. Hope this helps other. Guest JoAnn Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Hello, this exact same thing happened to me. No volume now!! I read your advice and I went to the website--but I don't have Windows vista. I have Windows XP professional version 2002. Any advice on how to fix it?? Let me know. Thanks. Guest JoAnn Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Hello, I may have already posted this--but I don't see my post so decided to repost. Appologies if this is the 2nd time you see it. I recently encountered this same problem. I've read through the posts here and I don't quite understand?? This happened last sunday 23 Nov. but I don't remember installing any updates? The last thing I remember doing was installing a program to reduce video files. It didn't work so I deleted it. My volume still worked though. It wasn't until the next day the sound just went out. I tried fixing it by reinstalling stuff as several of the people did and it didn't work. I tried going to the website and I'm wondering if I can even do that backup stuff because I have Windows XP 2002--NOT vista?? Can someone help please??? I need the volume for work!! Thank you. Not really the same scenario, and the thread you've attached to is largely expired anyway. Please post a new message spelling out your particular issue in more detail. As it doesn't sound as if your problem relates to Windows Update, you may get a better response by posting in microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware. Harry.
Guest georgethegood Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I have the same problem but mine is complcated by the fact that this is a new MS install. All works except the audeo. (strange how you can miss something like audeo) I get the error "IDT High Def Audeo Codec Code 10. I tried removing the software. Since the card is built in I can't remove it. Nothing works. Since I don't have a BU what are my options? georgethegood "realcestmoi" wrote: > Hi there, > > Never take drivers from windows update unless they are intended for > Microsoft hardware. > > If an updated driver is needed because the hardware does not work proper go > to the manufacturers website to look for an updated driver. > > If it ain't broke: do not try to"FIX" it. > > If you did take the optional drivers from windows update try booting last > known good configuration, rolling back on the driver or use system restore > or > do a windows repair installation or restore from the system backup you > hopefully made. > > Best regards, > Michel Denie > > "Dave Horne" wrote in message > news:uO2noGsqIHA.2292@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > > I'm using Vista Home Premium and just installed the IDT Audio IDT High > > Definition Audio CODEC update today. Guest tashahayes Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Hi, I realize this is a really old issue, but I am having the same one now. This computer was just converted back to windows from Linux about a week ago. I reviewed the responses here, and when I went to to do the system restore it says I had it turned off. Exactly how do I get the audio to work? I've tried with both the IDT and the Realtek drivers, but everytime I reboot and the "found new hardware" dialog box pops up and I go through the process of both automatically and manually installing the drivers, it keeps telling me that it is unable to start. Do you ahve any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks!
