Guest Hans Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Windows Visita Ultimate, trying to install the BitLocker and EFS enhancements through Windows Update, keeps failing with the following: BitLocker and EFS enhancements Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80070643 Update type: Optional More information: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=80936 Of course, that link doesn't actually go anywhere but the Vista website. I do have Office 2003 installed (as well as FrontPage 2003), and searching Google as well as here shows that the error Code 80070643 is apprently an Office issue. I've tried all the fixes, except uninstalling Office (which is not an option at this point.) I've found numerous posts about this problem, so I'm not alone surely Microsoft could have a KB article in it! :-( So far, I've tried (with no success): Copying the OSA.EXE from the Office CD Stopping the Cryptograhic service, then renaming the c:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2\edb.log, then restarting the service I have not deleted the CatRoot2 folder, though some sites have suggested that as a fix. Anyone else have any suggestions, other than uninstalling Office just to get this update?
Guest Linda Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I've been having the same problem and I have Windows XP. It fails to install every time I try it. I don't know what to do. It would be nice if someone knew how to fix this.
