Guest Steve Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 For no obvious reason windows update failed trying to install the windows update software, version 7.0.6000.381. i went through all of the basic steps of clearing update history and download folders, and retrying. it just crashed right off the bat. In order to fix it I had to uncheck using Microsoft update to download additional updates for other products, then turning around and telling windows update to download additional updates. it then takes you to a web site to download Microsoft Update, once installed and the system rebooted, everything is back to normal... There's going to be a lot of stuck vista systems.... Windows update will be rendered non-functional and will not be able to download any further updates until it is fixed. Operators will have to go through this routine to fix it. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Guest Jerry Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I am having the same issue, thanks for the fix but I am having difficulty following the steps, can you detail the fix, location of the uncheck box and where and how to update additional products. Thanks bunch, Jerry "Steve" wrote: > For no obvious reason windows update failed trying to install the windows > update software, version 7.0.6000.381. > > i went through all of the basic steps of clearing update history and > download folders, and retrying. it just crashed right off the bat. > > In order to fix it I had to uncheck using Microsoft update to download > additional updates for other products, then turning around and telling > windows update to download additional updates. it then takes you to a web > site to download Microsoft Update, once installed and the system rebooted, > everything is back to normal... > > There's going to be a lot of stuck vista systems....
