Vista Update 7.0.6000.381 Fails

For no obvious reason windows update failed trying to install the windows

update software, version 7.0.6000.381.

i went through all of the basic steps of clearing update history and

download folders, and retrying. it just crashed right off the bat.

In order to fix it I had to uncheck using Microsoft update to download

additional updates for other products, then turning around and telling

windows update to download additional updates. it then takes you to a web

site to download Microsoft Update, once installed and the system rebooted,

everything is back to normal...

There's going to be a lot of stuck vista systems.... Windows update will be

rendered non-functional and will not be able to download any further updates

until it is fixed. Operators will have to go through this routine to fix it.

following the steps, can you detail the fix, location of the uncheck box and

where and how to update additional products. Thanks bunch, Jerry
