Guest hall27 Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I have been trying to get my WSUS 3.0 server to sychronize with the Windows Update site. I am able to access the web site and search for updates, but cannot import any updates. When using the WSUS console I get the following error: WebException: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden. I do have a proxy server (that does not require an ID or password) set in the Update Source and Proxy Server section under Options. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this error?

The '403' error is coming from your proxy server, and it means, simply, that you dont' have authorization to access the specified URL. Since this is a WSUS 3.0 server trying to synchronize, we can immediately rule out the upstream (microsoft.com) server. That pretty much leaves the proxy server. What proxy server do you have installed. Are you positive that it does not require authentication? Does the proxy server support connections on both HTTP and HTTPS protocols? Does the proxy server support *simultaneous* connections from the same host on HTTP and HTTPS protocols? Have you checked the proxy server logs for denied attempts to connect to microsoft.com via HTTPS? -- Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCTS, MCP MVP - Software Distribution (2005-2007) MS WSUS Website: http://www.microsoft.com/wsus My Websites: http://www.onsitechsolutions.com http://wsusinfo.onsitechsolutions.com My MVP Profile: http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Lawrence.Garvin
