Security Update (KB927779) shows on Windows Update even after install

Hi, I've read a few related threads here but none seem to address my

exact problem.

I've narrowed this issue down to the fact that my drive is partitioned

into C and D - C for Windows, D for data. Normally, the Program Files

and Common Files directories are located on D - I edited the registry

to move these folders over to that partition - and when that is the

case, KB927779 will always show as an update to be installed even

though it is already installed (it's in Add/Remove Programs). If I

revert the Program Files and Common Files directories to their default

locations on C, KB927779 does not offer to install.

My question is, is there a way to stop KB927779 coming up when my

Program Files and Common Files directories are set to their respective

paths on D? It's a great annoyance, because if I have automatic updates

enabled, the yellow update icon will ALWAYS display in the system tray

because it thinks I need to install the update.

Thanks!

See if setting the path of FileList resolves this issue:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows

XP\SP3\KB927779\Filelist\1

Name Data

Location D:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO

Do the same for Filelist 2 and 3

Restart the system

Did the prompt to reinstall KB927779 show up again ?

Hi and thanks for responding.

Based on your instructions, I created a new string value called "Data"

with the value "D:\Common Files\system\ado" (the path on my system)

under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows

XP\SP3\KB927779\Filelist\1, 2 and 3. I restarted the system, but the

update still offers to be downloaded.

I wonder whether I followed your instructions right - was this what you

meant? If not, do you have any further suggestions?

Thanks!

Edit: OK that was just me being stupid, I changed the value of the

existing string "Location" to "D:\Common Files\system\ado", but still

no luck. Any advice?

Ah, OK, so perhaps there isn't anything I can do. Except reformat...

That's annoying.

No chance of a workaround I take it?

Did you happen to see Freudi's post ? :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933700

' change the ProgramFilesDir registry value to use the default location

for the Program Files folder '

See if resetting ProgramFiles to it's Duhfault location resolves the

redetection issue.
