Guest jettmorrison Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Installed a Microsot update for the D-Link - Networking - D-Link DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter today. Afterward, I lost all connection to the Adaptor. I eventually uninstalled the D-Link Driver, rebooted and then Windows 'Acquired Network Address'. So then I was connected. On next reboot, the same problem. No connection, can't repair the connection, can't locate an IP Address (even tried dos ipconfig/release...ipconfig/renew to no avail.). What the heck did the update do to my D-Link Hardware? It's a real nuissance having to disable my adapter and reboot just to use the internet. System: Windows XP professional sp2 Dell Dimension 8100 D-Link - Networking - D-Link DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Bios Version A02
Guest Dwarf Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 As has been pointed out by several people in this newsgroup (myself included), it is not recommended to install hardware updates from Microsoft for anything other than Microsoft components - all other hardware updates are best obtained directly from the manufacturer, in this case D-Link (http://www.d-link.co.uk). I suggest that you try a system restore to see if that restores functionality. Also, you might need to remove the adapter, reboot, shutdown, reinstall the adapter, reboot and let the system find the correct driver - if you have a disk supplied with the adapter then use that instead. Note that you may need to use a different slot (if available) to force the system to re-detect the card. You might also like to check your Bios settings to see if they have been changed. Guest jettmorrison Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Is there a way to remove the Microsoft update? I have been using this network adaptor for at least three years with any problems. All of a sudden, I download one update and the whole thing is screwed up. I'll try the recommendations. Guest realcestmoi Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Hi there, That is why: if it ain't broke: do NOT try to "fix" it. Guest Alan Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Hi Michel, Many of us have learned -- some of us, the hard way :> -- that philosophy about not fixing what isn't broken. I wonder why Microsoft seems not to have learned it? Guest realcestmoi Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Hello Alan, Why do you think there are such things as system restore and backup utillities? Not because microsoft software is perfect I guess?
