Critical Updates Crashed My PC

Hello, last Friday--Aug. 24th my PC was working fine as usual. I have a 4

year old Dell that has caused me no problems what-so-ever. MSN has caused me

problems, but not the computer itself. Friday night, I did a tune-up with

Windows Live One Care. Everything was fine, except it could not check for

critical updates, since I wasn't connected to the internet at the time. I

only am connected when I use the internet, since I have dial-up and one phone

line only. I also do not have my PC on unless I'm using it. Saturday night,

I went to download the critcal updates of the week. I believe there were 4 or

5 that week. I always do my critical updates when needed, except for one that

kept giving me the blue page--I believe that was the flash player one, so I

hid it. Either during the tune-up or the updates I remember there was an

icon appearing saying there was a newer version of the flash player--which I

have no idea what that even is--so, I just ignored it. Well, I downloaded

the updates, and then installed them by using the computer turn-off, where

the updates install and then turn off the PC itself. Sunday, I did not turn

on the PC at all. My Windows LIve One Care was expiring that day, and I was

not renewing it. I was waiting for the new security software to arrive in the

mail, which it did Tuesday. But Monday night, when I turned on the PC, I

discovered XP could no longer load. It starts to load, then I get a black

page, a gray page, then the blue page, which shows it had to shut down...the

code is something like 21A. I'm not on my PC, of course, so I don't have it

with me, but can get it. By holding down the control and escape buttons

before XP tried to load, I could get to the keyboard page, and press some of

the F buttons. I did all the choices on the boot page, including use the last

configuration that worked, but nothing worked. I went to the Dell diagnostic

page and did a Sympton Tree for both the Windows Blue Page and PC freeze up

page--everything passed. It's not the PC, it's XP! And I have no idea what

to try next. I've never had a crashed computer before. Every time I ever got

a blue page, which has been less than 10 times, it always fixed itself after

I turned off the PC and turned it back on. Any help would be appreciated! I

don't think it's fair, to say the least, that critical updates crashed my PC.

Hello Charles, no it won't start in the safe mode. It doesn't even

show the XP start up page after pressing that. It just goes to the gray page,

and then the blue page. The error codes on the blue page are C000021a and

0xc0000005 and 0x00000000.
