BITS Won't Start

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've just recently done an XP repair and now find that I can't download

windows, office or defender updates.

It appears that this might be due to the BITS not being started. I have

tried to manually start it but get the message:

"Could not start Background Intelligence Transfer Service service on local

computer"

"Error 1083: The executable program that this service is configered to run

in does not implement the service"

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks for any responses.

Cheers

Buster

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910337 should help.

(Start -> Run -> "regsvr32 qmgr.dll" [Enter], "regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll" [Enter])

Hi Freudi,

Thanks for the quick response. I had already sourced that advice and it

didn't work. However, I did it all again after getting your advice and it

didn't work again.

However, the advice doesn't tell you to restart your machine and when you do

it all works fine!

Thanks for the help.

Cheers

Ooops, that should be mentioned indeed. You've started / tried to start

BITS after re-registering the DLLs?

Thanks for posting back! :-)
