Guest Sarah2333 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Hi...I keep getting an error message after I try to install this XP update KB931836. The yellow update shield shows on the desktop, I click and it comes back saying failed, but when I go to the update website, it doesn't show that I have an update to install. the error message I am getting is Error Code: 0x8007F0F4. If anyone has a clue, I would appreciate it. -- Sarah
Guest Engel Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Hello Sarah, 0x8007f0f4 -2146963212 STATUS_PREREQUISITE_FAILED Setup cannot continue because one or more pre-requisites required to install failed. For More details check the Log File. Update.exe can throw this error when it starts to download if the computer is running under battery power (there may be a fix for this in the future). http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&p=1&tid=bb80f00e-da45-48a1-8b1d-2d78f4677268&mid=bb80f00e-da45-48a1-8b1d-2d78f4677268 - -- -- "Sarah2333" wrote: > Hi...I keep getting an error message after I try to install this XP update > KB931836. Guest alsead Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 My yel shield suddenly says I need 72 updates, how can I be sure these are real and not cover ups for covert spyware access. Now it seems I'm gonna be stuck with the ones I started to download but changed my mind until checked why so many. Can I cancel them before I restart my laptop. Guest reader Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Had the same problem. Contacted MicroSoft support and got the solution. It worked for me. Here it is: ---------------------------------- From the problem description, I understand that the issue was encountered when trying to install KB931836 after installing KB933360. If KB933360 was uninstalled, the update KB931836 can be installed successfully, however, the Automatic Update will prompt to install update KB933360 again. ... This issue occur if a new DST update KB933360 have been installed. After installing it, the volume of the following key will be modified to 3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\TZVersion However, the update KB931836 can only be installed if the key volume is less than 2. In order to resolve this issue, we can try to manually change the key volume to 0, and then install the update KB931836 again. For your convenience, please see the detailed steps below: 1. Click Start, click Run, type REGEDIT, and click OK. 2. Select My Computer (the root node) in the left pane, click Export under the File menu, choose All under Export range, Select Desktop in the Save in box and type backup in File Name, then click Save. Please Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking on the backup.reg file. Once we have completed the troubleshooting and the issue has been resolved we can delete that file. 3. In the Registry Editor, go to the following branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones 4. In RIGHT panel, please locate and double-click the key TZVersion. Enter 0 into the Value Data field, and click. 5. Close Registry Editor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Sarah2333" wrote: > Hi...I keep getting an error message after I try to install this XP update > KB931836.
