Guest f@lo Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 KB938979 does not install on my Vista Home Premium 32Bit. It downloads, it configures, it restarts windows, it configures, it restarts, it configures and then reports a fault. error messange is 80070002. Tried to delete update history and reinstall as suggested to overcome 80070002. Didn't work. Is it possible that my Norton Protection Center is preventing proper installation? Any suggestons are highly appreciated. f@lo

Guest PA Bear Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910336 Windows Vista Help: Windows Update error 80070002: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/c5f4d9e0-3eb6-426b-8118-0cedf489a75f1033.mspx -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin DTS-L.org f@lo wrote: > KB938979 does not install on my Vista Home Premium 32Bit. > > It downloads, it configures, it restarts windows, it configures, it > restarts, it configures and then reports a fault. error messange is > 80070002. Guest f@lo Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 KB938979 does still not install on Vista Home Premium 32Bit Hello Engel and PA Bear, Thank you for your suggestions. I tried Engel's link as it seemed to be the more recent version (2.1 instead of 2.0) of article 910336. Sadly, it didn't help: Again, the system reports the failure to update as follows (sorry, it is in German as my System is German): > Produkt Windows Modules Installer > Problem WINDOWS_WCP_AI_FAILURE2 > Datum 08.09.2007 14:30 > Status Bericht gesendet > Problemsignatur Problemereignisame: WINDOWS_WCP_AI_FAILURE2 > OsVersion: 6.0.6000 > InstallerId: Directory SD > Phase: 32 > Mode: Install (servicing up) > Status: 80070002 > Component: x86_microsoft-windows-shell32_31bf3856ad364e35_none_29e0c02b314b9fa3 > QueueType: Servicing > Annotation: unknown > Betriebsystemversion: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 > Gebietsschema-ID: 2055 > Weitere Informationen über das Problem > Bucket-ID: 21608134 Every update, I receive two error messanges: one "servicing up", one "servicing down". Any other ideas? f@lo "Engel" wrote: > Hello f@lo, > Please try here > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/en-us

Guest PA Bear Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Re: KB938979 does still not install on Vista Home Premium 32Bit Both links should bring you to the Revision 2.1/Last Review 30 Jun-06 page. (Mine would've taken you to a German-language page.) I'd recommend that you start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot, AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) and disable/remove any Norton Add-ons before attempting to install the update(s). -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin DTS-L.org f@lo wrote: > Hello Engel and PA Bear, > > Thank you for your suggestions. How would the procedure for this look like? I am using Windows Update. After download, the updates usually start to install themselves. During download, I would like to have the protection of antivirus and firewall. f@lo
Guest f@lo Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 KB938979 does not install on Vista Home Premium 32Bit - SOLUTION After emailing with "Microsoft Security Support" the solution turns out to be as follows (at least, it looks like a solution): 1) install update manually: <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=de&FamilyID=3fb80bb9-d832-425b-b42c-d3eb2071bbec>. The update installed fine. It ist called "... for Windows" and not "... for Windows Vista". I assume/hope this can be safely ignored. 2) Windows update will continue to complain about the inability to install the update "for Windows Vista". 3) I asked Windows Update to ignore this Update in the future. Thxs for your help, Olaf
