WU Catalogue and UserDataPersistence

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

XP Home, SP2, and Satellite Internet service

Recently,(last two weeks approx) when I go to WU, click on Adminstrator

Options and then Windows Update Catalogue, I receive a message that I

must have User Data Persistence enabled.

This option is enabled.I have looked via Google and checked some pages

on the MS sites but haven't been able to solve this problem.

Does anyone have any ideads?

Thanks Drummy

Try to access the new Microsoft Update Catalog here:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

Suggest you dump the TIF cache via Internet Options in the Control Panel

first. If no joy, then check these registry subkeys Names, Type, and

Value:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet

Settings\Zones\3

Name Type Value

1606 REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet

Settings\Zones\3

Name Type Value

1606 REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

The above enables User Data Persistence

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/182569

Well, I did all that and nothing has changed. Cache is cleared every

time I close the browser(Maxthon), but I did it anyway. The registry

values are as you stipulated.

I checked out the KB182569 link but didn't find anything there(maybe

I missed something).

Anything else you can think of?

Thanks, Drummy

ps: I did use IE to go to the update site.

You can use IE to got to the MS Update Catalog but not Maxthon ?

Then it's apparent there's an issue with Maxthon, not IE.

Suggest you seek out assistance from Users or the web site of

Maxthon as I have no experience with it.

KB182569 explains the Zones and below that, the Value of the Settings

for the Zones that are entered into the registry.

I can't get there with IE or Maxthon. Both of the 1606 Registry

entries are set to 0 (enabled). Maxthon is just a shell for, and uses

the IE engine.

I suppose the next step might be to take this machine back to factory

status.

All the best Drummy
