All updates after 17 Aug. 07 Not installing

I just found that any and all updates downloaded after 17 Aug. 07 have not

installed, everytime I restart the PC it takes longer because they try to

install, but never an error message. Today I try update manual and find the

updates already downloaded but failed to install then I get a error message,

and see the history of failed installs. error 0x80070017 Is this the

famouse WGA?. The current OS install I am using is OEM disk and MS updates

only. It is not trash or junk and has worked and updated before without

problems, then this starts. I hope they don't say something stuped like

reinstall because I will blow up big time. I have done that Five or six

times for MS after Feb 07 and I am sick of it. They don't have to waste

their time I do.

OK found on other site that this error error 0x80070017 is disk related not

update related, knowing my disk is ok ran chkdsk took about hour but it found

bad cluster 14180 related to ieframe.dll it repaired itself. after chkdsk

ran updates and the already downloaded updates did install, restarted and

good to go.

After dozens of attempts to install the following updates:

KB940602 Error Code 0x80070643

KB936048 Error Code 0x80070643

KB936643 Error Code 0x80070643

KB933669 Error Code 0x80070643

KB934180 Error Code 0x80070643

KB934181 Error Code 0x80070643

I contacted MS Help and Support. Needless to say they were slow in

responding and the help they offered was useless. Can someone help me with

this problem. I am running Windows XP and Norton's 360. I had no problem

installing previous updates.

Hello alleyoop,

Try this

Turn off your firewall and go to Windows Update, select Express (Get

high-priority updates), and apply all offered updates

http://update.microsoft.com

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Hi Engel,

I took your advice and all six updates failed to install.

I thought the firewall was there to protect you from the internet..........

Anyone else have any solutions?

Hi Engel,

I ran dial-a-fix.exe in both the "windows mode" and "safe mode". Dial-a-fix

did not seem to find any problems at all even though I had every box on the

page ticked off. I still can not install the 6 mentioned windows updates.

This is tough problem.

Any other suggestions.

Hi alleyoop,

I am out of answers. Sorry I couldn't help

I'd recommend resubmitting your post here:

Help and Support

http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx?rdpath=1&gprid=9860

OR

I'd recommend calling 1-866-pcsafety if you are in the U.S. or Canada.

Elsewhere, call your local Microsoft subsidiary, or the number for paid

support in your locale--and ask for the free help with virus or

security-patch related issues.

This help extends to spyware removal as well.

Other than that, I'm about out of ideas, so good luck with it.

Let us know maybe someone else can conjure up something else to try.

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Clean out your temporary internet files.

If you need to reinstall the ActiveX controls (because they may have become corrupt),

follow this article -

The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan for updates when

you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or of Windows XP Service

Pack 1

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916259

Another suggestion, try a manual download of one of the updates that failed to install and

install from a different drive or flash drive or something.

or try running the "chkdsk /r" command at the command prompt

I had the same problem. Microsoft advised uninstalling the windows installer

program and then reinstalling it. It worked for me - insralled 80 of 81

Nevr touch your firewall whatever is the problem. It is there to

protect you.

Have you tried downloading the hofixes manually and then installing them

by double clicking on them?

To All PC computer users who have difficulty installing the latest

updates..........

I finally got the problem solved by Microsoft Help & Support. They had me

remove Office 2003 and reinstall it according to the instructions they

provided. All updates then installed successfully.

It reminds me of a guy who had a problem with his car's door handle, he had

to send the whole car back to the manufacture to get the entire car

reassembled. Now his door handle works.
