Guest Don.McCabe41 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 HELP I continuously get the little yellow shield for "Updates are ready for your computer. Click here to install." I've installed during the day, at night when I turn the compter off, I've even gone to Microsoft to check for updates and these two updates will not install. Other updates seem to install okay. I have no idea on how to install these two updates.

Guest PA Bear Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 A1. See "Note: The drivers may not be updated during the installation on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer when the drivers are unsigned. In this case, Windows Update continually offers the package. To resolve this problem..." about half-way down this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920872 A2. Is "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931784)" listed in Add/Remove Programs (make sure the Show Updates box is checked)? If not, can you successfully download/install it manually via http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=eeaee4a7-4858-4b6b-9c6d-a9f1eae19b51 ?? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin DTS-L.org Don.McCabe41 wrote: > I have XP SP2 > > "Don.McCabe41" wrote: > >> HELP >> >> I continuously get the little yellow shield for "Updates are ready for >> your >> computer. Guest Don.McCabe41 Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 I did what you suggested and that didn't work. I checked the "Add & Remove" and found "Update for Windows XP (KB920872) Installed 9/13/2006" but didn't find KB931784. Any suggestions. Don "PA Bear" wrote: > A1. Guest PA Bear Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Close all open applications before proceeding below. A1. Guest Don.McCabe41 Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I followed your instructions. KB920872 seems to have worked, but not KB931784. I have deleted it twice and reinstalled it, but the Update shield Icon keeps coming back. I deleted a third time and reinstalled using the update shield icon and the shield came back. Any other ideas? Don "PA Bear" wrote: > Close all open applications before proceeding below. > > A1. Guest ANONYMOUS Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I suggest the following: 1) Restart your system in SAFE MODE 2) Launch your Windows Explorer 3) Go to: C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution 4) Delete everything from this folder or rename the folder to: SoftwareDistribution02 5) Restart your system normally 6) Use Windows Update again Hope this works.
