Guest Zjonn Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 The Security Update of several weeks ago appears to have caused problems on my system in that the update has attempted to install a number of times apparently without success but I am now unable to access Windows Update on my system nor am I able to access the control panel. Clicking on the control panel icon in start gives the appearance that it is attempting to access it, briefly displays the control panel folder empty and then disappears leaving me with the normal desk top screen. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it without re-installing Windows, something which I had to do several months ago because of another problem, MS suddenly decided that my version of Vista was not genuine (even though it is and was which was verified by tech support as being genuine) .

Have you tried going back to a restore point prior to the failed update?
