Greetings, I get the same error on this and have had these errors before long ago and now I forget how to fix it, but it seems you have to uninstall the old and put in the new and then the old or some such thing. Any I hope they can find a work around rather than going all throuogh that nonsense to install a patch. I suspect many are getting this error.

If all else fails, try the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 Download, install, run the utility and select the .NET versions you wish to "clean up". After that, you will need to download and re-install the ..NET Framework versions which were cleaned up. Then you should be able to install today's security updates. It worked for me! -- Sired, Squired, Hired, RETIRED.

I followed Retired's advice and it worked like a charm! The only thing I did different is besides uninstalling, I also deleted the folder C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET. Then I used the link above to install 2.0 and it also installed all three security updates with no problem. Thanks, Retired! Now the only question is, should I try installing version 3.0 again or just leave well enough alone?
