Guest tess Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I'm sorry if this has been answered before but can someone tell me - if an update shows as "failed" on the update history on Automatic Update, does Windows try again to install it automatically or should I try to do it manually. If I do it manually, will it show up in the update history?
Guest PA Bear Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Are you referring to Update History as displayed at /Windows/ Update website? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.org/ tess wrote: > I'm sorry if this has been answered before but can someone tell me - if an > update shows as "failed" on the update history on Automatic Update, does > Windows try again to install it automatically or should I try to do it > manually. Guest tess Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Yes, if I manually go to the Update website, it give me an option to review update history. It's on this list that I see various failed updates but as I have about over 170 items on there now, maybe duplicated, (manual and automatic) I just wondered if XP Update tries again automatically or should I? My system is set for automatic update but I do often check to see if anything is available. If I do a manual check, would the available update list include those that had failed? Thanks! Guest PA Bear Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Show Update History at the website only lists updates installed via the website, Tess. Most (but not all) updates installed via Automatic Updates will be listed in Add/Remove Programs (if the Show Updates box is checked). If Automatic Updates doesn't offer you an update, chances are that (1) it's already installed, (2) a later, cumulative update supersedes it, or (3) the machine doesn't need it. -- ~PA Bear "tess" <tess@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:969DECCF-EA05-4E0F-A394-73F6683D31E0@microsoft.com... > Yes, if I manually go to the Update website, it give me an option to > review > update history.
