Guest Kaitlyn Luna Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I'm using Win2000Pro and I have all updates installed through mid-July 2007. I installed IE6SP1 from an official MS CD-ROM. WU has been broken for over a month now. In July I was asked to install an update to Windows Update. I did that and then installed the other updates available. This was the final time WU worked. The next time I tried to get updates I was told there was an Active X problem. I was given the opportunity to redownload and reregister the WU components. I did that, but it didn't help. I rebooted and still had the same problem. Next I tried to reinstall IE using the same CD-ROM I had used before. No errors were reported, but WU was still broken. I didn't use Repair under Add/Remove Programs because IE isn't listed there. The reinstall didn't add it to A/RP either. Now the scan does complete, but I get this error: [Error number: 0x80244030] The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem. The only information I could find about this error code is about proxy issues, but I don't use any proxy at all. So now can WU be fixed or am I all done with getting updates?
Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 0x80244030 WU_E_PT_ECP_INIT_FAILED The external cab processor initialization did not complete. In plain English, 'something' is preventing the updating of the system files that are required to update the OS. Which antivirus software/security suite or other security software is installed, Kaitlyn ?
