Thank you George, it appears to have worked!

The answer to your question could be the following:

Some bugs have become resistant to insecticide sprays and require deeper

analysis for their removal which appears to be beyond the current abilities

of our friends at Microsoft. Perhaps this serves to illustrate that they are

merely a bunch of aerosols!

Unfortunately, if you use Office or any number of Corel programs, as

well as others, they are now broken, and you will now have to uninstall

and reinstall them too, also using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility has a major downside, and I'm not sure

why no one is warning users to uninstall certain programs first (because

you won't be able to repair or uninstall them afterward in the usual

manner).

The best thing to do if you're having a problem with KB928365 and

KB928366 is to open a case with Microsoft, tell them you do not want to

use WICU, and get further instructions. This serves the twofold purpose

of letting Microsoft know just how many people are affected, as well as

providing a spur to fixing WICU so that its use does not break other

programs.

This was helpful. Thanks Carey. While trying to install from this download,

it complained that I did not have .NET 1.1 SP1. So I downloaded and installed

that as well. And after installing .NET 1.1 SP1, I 928336 again and it

succeeded..

Thanks Carey!!

I had the same experience. These things just keep pushing me to consider a

Mac and my will to resist is failing just like a Windows hotfix.

Well done George, and Thanks for helping to resolve the problem with 928366.

Do you have a similar solution to fix the same problem with 928365 ?

Regards,

Geoff.

George,

I have been plagued, for a few weeks now, with constant prompts that I

have Windows updates to install. However, when I do install, I

repeatedly get the same message: 'Following updates were not

installed: Security Update for Microsoft.NET Framework Version 1.0

Service Pack 3 (KB928367).

In Googling for help I came across your post, that seemed

understandable to me, so I tried it. To the best of my knowledge, I

followed your steps, to the letter. But I must have erred somewhere

in the final steps. In executing step #4, I receive a message that I

already have ".NET 1.1 service pack 1" installed and do I want to

install over it, to which I clicked OK(?). In step #5, running

Windows Update doesn't result in, "SECURITY patch, the dreaded

KB928366", but rather, 'Following updates were not installed:

Security Update for Microsoft.NET Framework Version 1.0 Service Pack 3

(KB928367). Perhaps this is of no help, but I did have to opt for

step #2 to since Control Panel wouldn't delete the '.NET' entries.

Checking just now I see the '.NET' entries(.NET [kb886906], .NET

1.1, .NET 1.1 Hotfix [kb928366], and .NET 2.0) still listed in Control

Panel. From the beginning, I have been searching for remedies for

(KB928367), yet, this forum is addressing (KB928366), is that an

issue?

If you have any further ideas or 'fixes', let me know. If it is not

inappropriate, could you email me any feedback (srt4me@cox.net), since

I don't know that I will be able to navigate back to this forum

again. Thank you for your patience and thoughts.

I also tried to download KB928366 directly and recieved a similar message.

My message read that the path could not be found, verify access to the

location or try to find the installation package "netfx.msi" in a folder

which can install the product Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1. I notice that you

searched for "netfix.msi" with an i, instead of "netfx.msi" without an i.

Maybe that is what your computer is looking for but, you may want to double

check and be sure you are looking for the correct file. What I did was, from

the start menu, I ran a search for "netfx.msi" on all my computers files and

folders. I got zero results but, noticed that the search had not included

hidden files. I used advance search to search in the hidden files as well.

It was found at my "c:\hp\drivers\hpiz423\setup". Using the start menu, I

selected "My Computer". Then I selected my hard disk drive "C:". In the

upper left hand corner under "System Tasks", I selected "Show the contents of

this drive". Once the contents were available I went back to Windows updates

and tried "KB928366" again and was successful. Thus far I haven't noted any

adverse effects and everything seems to be working properly and I haven't had

any more trouble with my updates. But if you go this route do not forget

afterwards to go back to your "C:" drive and under "System Tasks", "hide the

contents of this drive".

I wish you the best and hope this will help you to successfully download

"KB928366".

It feels as if Microsoft fixes are worse than the virus, and to try to apply

them is so costly in wasted precious time that it is best to forget them

altogether.

I installed the Removal tool. I have removed all .NET framework related

items. I have reinstalled them directly from the Microsoft website. KB928366

still fails and the little Security center balloon pops up and wants to

reinstall all .NET items and says it has done so successfully and fails to

download KB928366.

I have tried tried this a number of times on both my computers.

I found a related article that gives a phone number for free support, but

they refused the free support because I purchased an OEM.

I have also tried downloading and installing this several times, completely

without success!

I get the same error message as Flodo and others, even after manually

re-installing .NET 1.1 and .NET 1.1 SP1 and so forth.

This worked on one of my XP Pro systems with a different motherboard (an

Asus), but it has never worked for this system's mobo (an Intel DG33TL).

Note that this system is brand new and I only installed XP Pro SP2 two days

ago. All other Windows Updates downloaded and installed correctly. Also,

there are not many installed apps, so the fault clearly lies with Microsoft.

I should also point out that I got the same error message when I tried it in

Safe Mode.

The trick for me was to download (thanks for the link) and run the install manually.

This popped a message that .Net 1.1 SP1 was not installed (which is was).

Anyway, a reinstall of SP1 cured the problem.
