Wait until more people have time to install it. It was released... today. Seriously - you can look through the update log files to get more information... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884290/ -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Guest TV Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I have the same problem. The installation starts but half way through it indicates that the installation failed. It looks to me there is some kind of a bug. Any suggestions! Guest ANONYMOUS Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Error Code: 0x8024002D means - a full-file patch failed because the source was required I suggest download the full file from here and then try again: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E25B7049-3E13-433B-B9D2-5E3C1132F206&displaylang=en If you can't wait to download 117mb, then you will need your original Office 2003 CDs. hth jj wrote: > > Error Code: 0x8024002D > > I have put in the Office 2003 CD, and it still won't install. > > I then did the full download package of the update, and received the > following message: "expected product not found" > > Now what?
Guest David [Office - Microsoft] Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Hello jj and others, If the service pack has failed to install because the source was required, this typically means that some Office files have been corrupted or deleted. In order to restore these files, you will need your Office 2003 CD or network installation source. You can fix the problem by following the steps given in this article: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011402361033.aspx Use the steps under the section titled "Enabling the local installation source". This will replace certain Office program files with fresh copies from the CD, and should enable you to successfully install Service Pack 3. You may also be able to successfully install Service Pack 3 by inserting your Office 2003 CD into the CD-ROM drive before starting SP3 installation. The reasons underlying the need for source files are highly complex and technical. In short, Office needs to reference certain files during installation of the service pack. If those file are missing or corrupt, installation fails. Let us know if you continue to have problems after following these steps. Thanks, David Program Manager, Office Service Packs Microsoft "ANONYMOUS" wrote: > > Error Code: 0x8024002D > means - a full-file patch failed because the source was required > > I suggest download the full file from here and then try again: > > http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E25B7049-3E13-433B-B9D2-5E3C1132F206&displaylang=en > > If you can't wait to download 117mb, then you will need your original > Office 2003 CDs. > > hth > > jj wrote: > > > > Error Code: 0x8024002D > > > > I have put in the Office 2003 CD, and it still won't install. > > > > I then did the full download package of the update, and received the > > following message: "expected product not found" > > > > Now what? >
Guest troubled Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 David, I have a similar problem but not quite the same. I loaded Office 2003 onto my new Vista Premium computer and the automatic updater wants to load SP3. I get a Windows Update error 80070643 when the download tries to install and fails. I printed out the 80070643 instructions and restarted the Office Source Engine service but the install still fails. Guest David [Office - Microsoft] Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Hi, This is indeed a different problem than the "request for source". Have you tried manually installing the service pack? You can download it from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E25B7049-3E13-433B-B9D2-5E3C1132F206&displaylang=en This may be successful.
