SP3 offered

I have my auto updates set to inform but not to download or install.

Today, the yellow shield appeared and I was informed of 3 updates:

Win Defender

Windows SP3 (YES)

Junk filter for Outlook

Clicking on SP3, I was informed that some elements had been released

individually but this update included them all in one pack.

I clicked "Download" and a minute or so later the yellow shield

disappeared!

As SP3 showed over 100MB, I thought I'd give it a while but nothing has

happened since.

Before going to the MS Update site, I thought I'd post to see if anybody

has had a similar experience.

Sorry, went to MS Update anyway and now see that it is Office SP3.

However, still don't know why the auto update (inform only) download

aborted.

Yes had a similar experience. I went to Microsoft Ofice Update and

downloaded the program from there.

Is it the size of the upgrade that stops it from being downloaded.

Could well be the size but that would indicate some kind of bug.

It would be interesting to find out the experience of other users who

have the other two options for Auto Update selected i.e.

Auto download and install, or

Download but do not install.

It may be that it's only the "Inform" option that has this problem with

large files.

I have down loaded the updates but the installation failed. Any ideas why?

The installation may fail if there are any Office programs open during

installation attempt, like Outlook, etc. Also it may be helpful to

temporarily quit or exit any security programs during the installation. If

there is a HIPS program running, set it to learning and/or install mode

during the service pack installation.
