Task manager is not working in Windows 7

Task Manager in Windows 7 is no longer working. I press Control-Alt-Delete and nothing appears to happen after I select "Task Manager"from the menu. I don't have the software disk for Windows because I bought the HP Desktop from Best Buy with the Windows

software loaded in.
