my Player stops - screen goes black for 1-3 seconds, then restarts for a while until the samt happen

I have Vista Ultimate but I'm not very PC clever ! When I try to watch a video clip etc it runs for a few seconds then stops - a second or 2 later the screen goes black for 1-3 seconds then it starts playing again !!! Please can you help ? Thanks
