Windows 7 will not operate with MP Navigator Ex 2.12

I have a Canon Scanner LiDE 700F which was working fine until a couple months ago after an update from Microsoft. Now the program that is to be used with the scanner - MP Navigator Ex 2.12 does not work & I keep getting an error message advising that the

program does not respond and will close down and Windows sends an error report and will advise if they find a solution. What I would like to know is there another program that I can use with this scanner instead of the MP Navigator Ex 2.12 as Microsoft has

not come up with a solution? I am very annoyed with Microsoft and all the so-called updates that I receive and then interferes with other equipment or programs already installed.
