Why do shortcuts and links open in a read only Microsoft Word document instead of the web page indi

I have Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9. This has just started to happen recently and I don't believe that I purposely changed any settings to cause it to happen. As you can tell, I am not a very savy user and do not have anyone else to help me.

 

Where do I start??
