Guest Susie Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 I have tried countless times to download SP2. I always end up getting access denied. Can anyone help?
Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Download the entire SP2 package from here and SAVE it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en Or, order the CD and pay for shipping only: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx Read this prior to installing SP2 to save yourself a ton of grief: Preparing for installation http://winhlp.com/WxSP2.htm#Preparing_for_installation MowGreen [MVP 2003-2007] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== Susie wrote: > I have tried countless times to download SP2. Guest Engel Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Hello Susie, 0x80070005 refers to an Access Denied message. Either the file is not present and no security descriptor can be written to it or, 3rd party software is 'protecting' it from any installing. Locate wuaueng.dll in WINDOWS\system32 Right click it, choose Properties Click the Version tab What Version level does it show ? It should be 7.0.6000.381 What is the antivirus software and/or security software currently installed ? Suggest you call PSS and report this issue. Since this is security related, e.g. not being able to install security updates, then there should be no charge for support with this: Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. Stick to this one issue so that the support 'person' does not get confused and attempt to charge for support. Just say that the system can not install the SP 2 Good luck - -- -- "Susie" wrote: > error when I install > > "Susie" wrote: > > > I have tried countless times to download SP2. Guest Susie Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 That's the whole thing, my husband had a trial version of CA virus protection, he uninstalled that so he could download the free protection of CA from Time Warner and that's where our problems all started. He did somethhing and we ended up with a black blank screen. I reinstalled the disk that we got from gateway (big mistake) our computer is like it was the day we bought it. We are unable to download any virus protection because we don't have SP2 downloaded, at least that is what the message keeps saying. Our computer will be 6 years old next month and I afraid we may need a new one, anyone with any suggestions on how to correct the problem, short of throwing the whole thing out the window:) I would appreciate it. Thanks, Susie "Engel" wrote: > Hello Susie, > > 0x80070005 refers to an Access Denied message.
