Why is update listed as "failed" in update history but I get a "not required by your system" messag

Why is update listed as "failed" in update history but I get a "not required by your system" message when I attempted to manually install it? If I don't need it, why is it being listed as "failed"?? There are several of these updates and they are

listed as important.
