Required updates caused bios corruption and Vista to be seen as non genuine.

I installed recommended updates from microsoft, and now my Vista is showing as non genuine. I have a Compaq CQ71 laptop. The Bios has missing serial number and model number which were there prior to the update. I entered the correct registration key but

it is still seen as a non genuine key which I believe is due to missing bios information. The missing/ incorrect bios data is non editable. Everything has worked for 3 years prior to these updates carried out on 3rd Dec.
