Original Title: Can't access external HDD after upgrade from xp to win7

I have just upgraded from win xp to win7.I can't access my external hard drive .In "my computer" it shows the device,device managerlists it as a generic usb device.It says it is working properly but in the device details it cannot access any info about

its volume.The error message is that is unavailable and it can't access D:. Any ideas?
