Windows Media Player(vista) unable to open media player after doing a "Recovery"

about 5 days ago i had to do a &quotsystem Recovery&quot. eventually I tried to open Windows Media Player. It is on the start up menue however it is not listed on on the control panel under programs. Anyone?????????????
