Why has the sound stopped working?

Just noticed that I no longer have sound. All devices say they are working properly. Found that in audio devices, Realtek HDMI Output (ATI HDMI Audio) &quotnot plugged in&quot. Not sure what that is, but have not changed any settings or added any hardware.

How do I get sound back?
