Guest Rumpus Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I had to reinstall vista last week as the dvd player stopped woriing now I can't update my system. Bit is enabled and allowed through the firewall. I have tried install automatically, download and let me choose and let me choose which to download and install. I have left my pc on for hrs idle in the hope vista would download them when I wasn't using it. Still nothing. Is there a awy get vista to start downloading updates at the click of a button or does it have to wait and do it in it's own time. I've been trying different options for a wek with no real joy. 2 updates appear to have completed on the 20 but nothing since. heres a small snippet from my windowsupdate.log Rumpus Have you tried to download to disc then install from that. Those running XP and updating from SP2 with some 80 plus have found this method OK though rather time consuming - might also work in Vista - I don't know. Print out the list of critical/security ones offered. Go to the download search page, like here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=7 Type in the KB number in the order given - download. Write to disk - then disconnect from the net - disable all security progs and make sure nothing is running in the background. Clean out all temps, cookies, tifs, etc - I don't know what use you have had since the install, but I would suppose full AV and antispy wouldn't hurt either - then install one at a time. Most will prob want you to reboot, but I don't think it will hurt to do four or five then reboot. Then do the same for the software you want. Don't forget to enable all your security progs before reconnecting to the net. The best of luck to you. Rgds Antioch

Guest Rumpus Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 NO matter which method I try for installing updates nothing happens. At present I have had pc on all night with settings to download and install daily at 7pm nothing has happened. Winupdate log shows that at 19:00 contact was made to establish downloads but nothing has been downloaded. It looks like everything is working but nothing happens. Line like this are included in the log......
