Guest Vince Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Hi Everyone. I have Windows XP SP2. KB928365 (.Net Framework 2.0) failed to install and KB928366 (.Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1) installed but Microsoft Updates brings it back again saying it needs to be installed. Before I start messing with anything I sent a message to the Microsoft Update team allerting them of this issue and asked them to read these newsgroups and see the issue is being reported by many. I'll wait for Microsoft's reply. The Help and Support website for Microsoft where issues are answered and where you can send a message to the Microsoft Update team is http://www.windaa.notlong.com Vince

You almost certainly have to uninstall .NET, reinstall it, then install the update(s).
Guest LegalWeapon Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 It may seem a silly question.... but how do you uninstall .NET? "·" wrote: > Vince wrote: > > > Hi Everyone. I have Windows XP SP2. Guest Vince Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Hi LegalWeapon. If you want to uninstall .Net 1.0 or 1.1 or 2.0 or 3.0, then go to your control panel. Select the .Net version you want to uninstall. You can then go to Microsoft.com and reinstall the specific .net and redo Microsoft updates and install updates again. The reason i'm not following this path is because in another newsgroup some have done the uninstall .net path and had a mess on their hands trying to reinstall. I'm waiting for Microsoft to respond back to me of this issue I reported to them this morning. Guest LegalWeapon Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Hi Vince, Thank you for your reply. Alas, I wish I waited before jumping in the control panel to uninstal & reinstal .NET... as I am doing it right now, and yes, it's taking a long time, and I don't know yet whether it will work! Looks like these two security updates have been nothing but a pain in the neck... Thanks again! "Vince" wrote: > Hi LegalWeapon. Guest Vince Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Hi everyone. Got a call from Microsoft Today with how to fix both KB issues with .net 1.1 and 2.0 Microsoft was successful when you uninstall and reinstall .net 1.1 or 2.0 depending on which update you can't do. so, I uninstalled both .net framework 1.1 and 2.0 and reinstalled the updates and wallah the updates went thru and i have no more updates to install. If you can't uninstall .net framework from the control panel, use Windows installer utility cleanup to uninstall. Hope this hels all. "Vince" wrote: > Hi Everyone. I have Windows XP SP2. Guest mhawke Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Hi All, Didn't work for me! I removed 1.1 and 2.0 through 'Add/Remove' and re-installed 2.0 from Microsoft download (It ends up running dotnetfix.exe with the 'repair' option when prompted). Tried to re-apply update through Windows Update and got the identical 0x643 error. I've wasted 3 hours on this so far. I'm going to bed! "Vince" wrote: > Hi everyone. Guest Vince Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 hi mhawke. It seems like you have a different issue going on. I didn't get an error code. The instructions for me was if .net framework failed to install or keeps asking to install over and over with no error codes. You might have to open a case with microsoft . Call 1-800-936-5700. Good Luck. "mhawke" wrote: > Hi All, > > Didn't work for me! Guest CoolCar Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I am having issues trying to update this security fix for last few weeks. Going to the update help website I was directed to this newsgroup. Reading this thread has raised doubts that I could be wasting a lot of time on this trying to unistall and reinstall. Also since this issue is on my home pc and not sure if the MS support here in New Zealand will answer calls after hours when I have spare time. So I will let few more days go by and then see if there is a solution pushed in as another autoupdate or pubished prominantly. Cheers ! "Vince" wrote: > Hi Everyone. I have Windows XP SP2.
