I have Windows XP SP1, and am attempting to download SP2. I keep getting an

error about not being able to download background intelligence transfer

service 2.0 and winHTTP5.1 (kb842773).

Can someone help me out here?

Download and SAVE KB842773 from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B93356B1-BA43-480F-983D-EB19368F9047&ampampdisplaylang=en

After the download is done disconnect the system from it's

internet/network connection.

Temporarily TOTALLY disable the installed antivirus software/security

suite. Consult the Help file or visit the manufacturer's web site prior

to disconnecting to learn how to accomplish this.

Now install WindowsXP-KB842773-v2-x86-enu.exe

If you're prompted to restart, do so.

REMEMBER to reenable the installed AV prior to reconnecting it.

Next, download the entire SP2 package:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

OR, order the CD and pay for shipping only:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

PRIOR to installing SP2, please read this:
