Windows 8 update functions freezes

Recently I have tried to run Windows Update from the Control Panel, to update the latest requirements patches released around 13/2/13.However, access to the update functions

• Turn windows updating or off
  
• Check for updates
  
• Install optional updates
  
• View update history
  

now either takes 5-6 minutes or just simply freezes. I eventually have to kill off the function through Task Manager.

 

Does anyone have the same problem.
