After the last windows 7 update ( 1 thru 14 updates) I cannot access the internet using internet exp

After I restored the system to an earlier date, I was able to use IE without any problems, however when the PC was shut down for the day

it reinstalled the same 14 updates that caused the problem. I can use Google Chrome to access the net, but do not have my "Favorites" available.
