Administrators AWS Posted February 17, 2013 Administrators Posted February 17, 2013 KB2789642 (Microsoft.Net Framework 4 on XP.....). will not install despite multiple attempts and return Error 0x643. This update came with another 9 on Feb 12 and all the others installed properly including KB2789613 also relating to Microsoft.Net framework 4. I am running Windows XP professional and IE8. Checks with McAfee and malware bytes did not detect any problems. Today I have re-installed mcafee. I have tried several of the solutions suggested in the forum to no avail. . Also the repair option for Microsoft.net Framework 4 Client Profile did not work. Restoring the system to previous checkpoints did solve the problem either. I have not tried anything to do with modifying the registry as it is beyond my competence. Need to add that I may have had some file corruption problems as checkdisk was activated at boot time. Is this update critical to the safety of my system? Any suggestion as to what I can do? The following has resolved the problem: I have downloaded the Microsoft.Net Framework Repair tool (KB article: KB2698555) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135&ppud=4 The troubleshooter works in several step and after the 3rd step, I was able install the update successfully.
