Can I restore the "Pictures" folder to an earlier date?

I was backing up my photos to a disk when my computer crashed. Since I had apparently cut instead of copied some files were lost. Is there a way I can restore from a previous date (like system restore) and get my pictures that I lost back? Please.Corrie
